Empowering Homeless Women: Talitha Cumi Missions' Vision for Healing and Health Equity

At Talitha Cumi Missions, we don’t just respond to homelessness—we confront the systems that create and sustain it. Our focuses is on empowering unhoused and crisis-impacted women and their children in the Greater New Orleans area with dignity, compassion, and bold, faith-rooted action.

Homelessness is not just the absence of shelter—it is the result of compounded injustice: inequities in healthcare, racism in housing systems, and barriers to basic resources that every human being deserves. That’s why Talitha Cumi Missions is launching our ‘Bridge to Healing’ initiative—a Systems Alignment Intervention that connects the dots between healthcare, housing, and social services to create a true path to wholeness.

Our Vision: Healing Beyond Housing

One of the most transformative goals we’re pursuing is the development of a permanent supportive housing, mixed-use campus—a place where women are not just housed, but healed. This community-centered site will combine affordable housing with wraparound services, mental and physical health care, trauma-informed support, and vocational empowerment. It will be a space where mothers and their children can stabilize, grow, and rise into restored purpose.

We’re not just creating units—we’re creating opportunity.

Elevating Health Equity

We have also seen through our work, firsthand how racial health disparities disproportionately impact BIPOC women—particularly those experiencing homelessness or unstable housing. That’s why we’re expanding our mission to boldly engage in health equity policy and research. We are building a coalition of trusted community voices, resident researchers, faith leaders, and academic partners to gather data, co-author solutions, and push for policy that is just, inclusive, and grounded in lived experience.

Because healthcare that does not see her, serve her, or save her—fails her.
